Gladstone-based industrial infrastructure firm Walz Group has secured a highly sought-after LNG fabrication package with CPB Contractors (formerly Leighton Contractors) in the Surat basin.
Walz Group has been engaged to fabricate 295 tonnes of structural steel and 16,000 diameter inches of welded pipework, as well as supply 15 pre-assembled units.
Walz Group CEO Mark Gregory said the project would provide a positive boost to the Gladstone economy, which had suffered the effects of globally depressed energy and mining commodity prices.
“The completion of construction activity on Curtis Island’s LNG plants has had a negative effective on Gladstone’s economy and employment,” Mr Gregory said.
“Walz will engage at least 50 additional specialist trades people as part of the professional execution of this project.
“This fabrication package is a critical part of CPB Contractors’ project, and its award is a strong endorsement of the Walz Group’s reputation in the industry for executing complex fabrication projects safely, working to tight timeframes, and with industry leading quality assurance.”
